How to Use Social Media for Your Professional Advantage!

During the past years the Internet has revolutionized every aspect of our lives. Social Networking, blogging and media share sites have significantly affected how business is done in today’s society. Some people and companies have experienced the potential pitfalls because of Social media, while millions of others have discovered the benefits of this new digital age. In this article, we want to focus on effective ways to use social media to build your professional identity.

First, using social media for professional use does not mean you have to stop connecting with your family and friends. All it means is that you have to interact on social networks with an eye towards your career. It is important to refine your language when sharing your thoughts or conversations, to highlight content and information that is more career focused and to connect with people outside your circle of friends and colleagues. It is important that you connect and converse with people and groups from all professional standpoints because you will be more effectively able to act upon professional opportunities.

Additionally, social media is a great way to find a job. Social networks like LinkedIn, Ryze, Plaxo, Ecademy and more others are a great way to connect directly to the companies you would want to work for, as well as the people behind it. By interacting with professionals and industryl experts, you will be able to gain more knowledge of that field and future opportunities.

Lastly, it is important to always keep in mind that Employers, industry leaders and other professionals do look at your social media activities. It is part of the new background check, so please do not post inappropriate comments or pictures. Thinking about how to use social media professionally will give you a great advantage when looking for a job.
