5 Pre-Interview Tips
Interviews can be the most stressful aspect of the job searching process. With a few clicks, you can have your full resume uploaded and references attached. However, once your resume has been sifted through, and you have been selected for an interview, you begin a new phase of the process. The face-to-face with your (hopefully) future boss or co-workers, includes several components-- from dress, to both verbal and nonverbal communication. Here are 5 pre-interview tips which TiPs has put together.
1. Dress to impress.

Remember that professionalism is determined by the setting as well as the individual. Not all employers have the same definition of “professional” so be mindful.
2. Be Nice to the Receptionist.

When applying anywhere, the interviewers are interested in the kind of person you are in addition to your skill set. I’ve been told by someone who interviewed applicants on Harvard Medical School’s admission board, that it was a common practice to ask the receptionist if he/she was treated well following the interview.
3.Do your research.

Read the company’s mission statement and what your job description entails! You can’t walk into an interview and assume that they will only care about your skillset. They want someone who is knowledgeable about the company and position.
4. Be prepared to ask questions.

Not everyone is aware that most interviewers give you the opportunity to ask questions following their portion. This is the best opportunity to fill in any holes that you could have in your application. Also, you can demonstrate your goals, and further exemplify how fit for the position you. (These questions can be based on your research, their questions, and much more!)
5. Take a deep breath

You have been called for the interview, after they have reviewed other applicants. You are qualified, and they are interested. Remember that while you may have only applied because you needed the money, they need an employee. The purpose is to convince the employer that you are a good fit for the position or capable of becoming one.
