Civic engagement refers to the ways in which citizens contribute to the community by developing knowledge, skills, values, and motivation to make a difference. Civic engagement is promoting the overall quality of life in a community. Civically engaged people are those who love their community, those who are aware of the citizen’s needs and rights. They are people who are not afraid to push themselves outside their comfort zone and help others and do the right thing no matter the consequences.
How to be more civically involved:
1.Find your passion
The first step is to determine what inspires you. Find one problem in your community either social or political that you wish you could change.
2. Volunteer
Once you have identified your passion then you can start contributing to the community. Volunteering is the easiest and fastest way for a citizen to give back. By volunteering, you contribute significantly to the work that needs to be done; and you gain tremendous knowledge about the issue.
3. Get involved in the community
Take the extra step and get involved with your community. Get to know your neighbors, interact with people in your community, and most importantly speak to your elected officials.
